Sourcing & Supply Chain (S&SC) represents ASML’s Sourcing, Supply Chain and Quality interface to its supply base and is responsible for Materials Availability for ASML’s factories. In today’s complex multi-tier supply chains, this is only possible by creating full transparency in the chains and flexibility at suppliers. S&SC manages over 100 chains up to seven tiers deep, addressing potential bottlenecks and supply risks before they impact our customers. It must handle the increased complexity of ASML’s systems while reducing cost of ownership for customers. To do this, LSM’s work with their suppliers to continuously reduce cycle time for components, modules and assemblies, increasing supply chain flexibility and customer value. S&SC also monitors the suppliers’ quality, flexibility, cycle time reductions, move rate compliance and on-time delivery reliability, driving supplier development in all areas to ensure ASML’s supply keeps pace with technological developments and can adapt to changing market conditions.

ASML is a Dutch high-tech company and one of the main suppliers of machines for the semiconductor industry, in particular steppers and scanners used in making chips. Customers are mostly chip manufacturers. ASML's headquarters and business complex is in Veldhoven, where both research and development and assembly take place in clean rooms. The company also has 60 service points in 14 countries to support the installation and delivery of machines and spare parts.

ASML emerged from a joint venture between ASM International and Royal Philips. ASML supplies worldwide, but most of its customers are based in Asia. In 2011, 66% of sales were generated in that region, 25% in the United States and just under 9% in Europe. The largest customer accounted for a quarter of total sales. ASML's main supplier is Zeiss, a manufacturer of lenses and optical components. Zeiss' share of ASML's total procurement costs is just under 30%. Because of the strong mutual interests, the two companies have entered into a strategic alliance; it can only be broken if one of the parties gives three years' notice. ASML spends a lot of money on research and development.
